I think that love is ONE of the strongest powers on Earth. It just depends on the person's character on which one of the powers (i.e. money, ambition) to rule him or her.
Maybe Winston and Julia did not really love each other in the first place. Because literary characters like Romeo and Juliet did and they died for love.
