G. Orwell *was* working on another novel, actually, after the "1984", but he was too weak for most of the time to be productive. The fragments of the new piece, found in his unpublished papers, reportedly indicated that it was rather weak stuff, about personal relationships (or something else), completely non-political. And he had enough of good sense to die suddenly, from a pulmonary hemorrage, instead of finishing the new novel.
"1984" is not like a Harry Potter story. How on Earth would you write sequel to it? Did you read the darkly funny last chapter? - W. Smith was thoroughly *finished* and it does does not matter what would get him at the end: bullet or the Victory Gin.
