I think you are absolutetly right that orwell's view of love is in 1984.

I find it very difficult question partly because his been avoiding the subject in his novels about his own life (down and out in Paris and London, Homage to Catalonia.) And because many of his characters were incapable to love and have "normal" relationship (like dorothy in Glergyman's daughter).

Winston Smith did love but deceived his love and was deceived by his love.

An idea just popped into my mind. It's very likely not right. Maybe Orwell felt that he was unable to love.
