it all depends on how true you want to stay to the book. the book (which i have read about a dozen times) gives great detail on their environment. everything has a dark and dingy cast to it. everything except their hideouts which should vastly contrast the rest of the settings (his place of employment, his apartment building, scenes that take place on the street, etc.). as for costumes: they should be simple and not very clean. i believe they wore a uniform of coveralls of some sort. if i were making a production i would stay as loyal to the story as possible. why distort a masterpeice? unless you are intentionally throwing your own personal spin on the whole thing. and in the event of that, calling it 1984 would be blasphemous. let me know what you think. pinkfloyd70@hotmail.com
