If you think of "Newspeak" as a form of "reductionism" then you will be halfway to understanding the concept.
For example consider the SUV...now, most folk will readily understand what you mean if you use this term in a conversation. However, if you use the term " Sports/Utility Vehicle " this will, in all probability, cause the listener to pause for thought mainly because it sounds like you are talking about something else and not a SUV.
Newspeak is just a method of restricting the scope of peoples thoughts.
