look at any US paper and see just how parochial it is(this may have changed post September 11).
At the height of the Empire the British were just as little concerned with the outside world- actually it's not much better now. I suspect it's a form of self-protection, a way of dealing with a subject of enormous complexity by pretending it's not there. Also look at CNN and try and find some analysis of september 11 beyond raw emotion and reporters on the spot. That is needed but so is a broader picture. I'm not a big fan of domestic BBC but look at BBC World Service television if you want a comparison.
