I've studied some modern linguistic theory, and I think you might be interested in reading some of Chomsky's work, or looking into cases of patients with Aphasia. I also think this partially contributes to a modern belief that you can prove anything you want to, be it true or not, if you use the right words...
As far as political terms are concerned, consider terms like ethnic cleansing/genocide, or terrorism/jihad, creation theory/creation myth... how do these terms try to influence the way you think about the issues?
