About a week ago, a couple of people preposed to me the idea that Orwell represented an evil ideology which supported a anti-human view of mankind. Having only read the two most famous of Orwell novels animal farm and 1984, I felt I needed a little more background before I refuted their arguments(which didnt amount to much). In reading some of his essays, I see Orwell as a very skeptical person, someone very critical of totalitarian rule, but also skeptical of democratic socialism gone astray. I don't think Orwell thinks of man's condition as hopeless, despite his criticisms(what would be his purpose of writing?). I was wondering if anyone else has heard this view of Orwell and what people think on the topic.
Thanks in advance
