I have been doing a paper on the similarities of Orwell's "Keep the Aspidistra Flying" and Joyce's "Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man" The commentary of these two novels on how a young artist must change with the times or the environment is very interesting. The problem is that style seems to be cyclical. What does everyone else think?

Also someone once posted the idea that Orwell is commenting on how capitolism is negative while socialism is positive in the book "KAF" Maybe this is not what he is saying at all. Maybe Orwell is trying to show the world that in different situations socialism, capitalism, and communism may work. Comstock cannot survive in the city as a socialist or communist because the "city" is a capitalist construct. Comstock might have lived a merry life without money if he only lived in the countryside and could raise vegetables and so on. Any thoughts?
