when i think of the symbolism behind the paper weight i think of two things. One of my ideas is the one that you have. I also think that the paperweight symbolyzes the past. A world like the world in the past is the World winston wants. how fragile the paperweight is symbolizes how fragile the past is and how it can be perverted (broken) by the one who holds it. In 1984 big brother held the past nad therfore couldchange it to fit the agenda. you can also say that winston had the past in his hands but was overly trusting and therfore lost it.
