i am half way through reading homage to catalonia! an intresting book on orwells involvement in the spanish civil war. me being an anarchist myself and having comrads in australia with links to the CNT i had an intrest in this book.
i just finished reading the chapter where the militiamen have just retreated from the fascist line and orwell reflects on the lost possession, the telescope. which would have been a vital instrument if they had siezed it!
anyway, there is much to suggest in that book that orwell has used himself, as the charachter of winston smith in 1984 and that he infact based the book on some of his experiences, whther or not he has said this i am yet to find but there are some familiarlarites between him and winston!
it was his involvement in the spanish civil war that led him to denounce totalatarianism because of the continuous lieing by both sides during the war.
the reason i feel that winston is in fact orwell is his hatred of RATS! "there are rats there are rats rats as big as cats" the old war chant went!
winston also has a fear of rats!
anyway after typing all this there is no real point to this post other than to announce that THE "BROTHER"HOOID EXISTS!
