Your comments provide much food for thought. I agree that "Any system that involves mass participation - be it political, economic or social - is open to abuse".
Perhaps we can all take the Orwell's cautions with us, for use in our involvements with whatever large systems (government, business, religious, social) we participate in, and try to minimize the abuse of power as best we can.
