The production is a longtime project and the first opera score ever written by the world famous conductor Lorin Maazel.
In the run-up to the premiere there have been some disputes about the funding of the opera: Lorin Maazel financed the production with 400.000 GBP (587.000 Ä) own money. Since Maazel has no track record as an opera writer and just little reputation as a composer there were accusations that Covent Garden is staging a vanity project.
Performances are scheduled for May 6th, 11th, 14th, 16th and 19th.
